On March 16th, Olympic Community of Health invited local care coordinators from Clallam, Jefferson, and Kitsap Counties to come together to learn about the upcoming Medicaid redetermination process and equip them with tools, resources, and connections to help affected community members navigate potential changes to their state medical insurance coverage.
45 participants attended from across the Olympic region and across the full spectrum of care: behavioral health, primary care, dental, public health, community-based organizations, statewide partners, and more.
Health Care Authority (HCA) shared a helpful presentation on the Medicaid redetermination process and timeline of what to expect. OCH is grateful for HCA’s meaningful and thoughtful participation at our convening.

A special thank you to our partner panelists from Jefferson County Public Health, West End Outreach Services, Peninsula Community Health Services and Molina Healthcare for sharing your local perspectives and insights as to how you’re preparing for redetermination and how we can best support our communities through this process over the coming year.

Some promising strategies partners are using to support folks through Medicaid Redetermination:

Ways YOU can support people through redetermination:
Talk to your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers (see HCA social media tool kit and End of Public Health Emergency Communications toolkit).
Encourage people to update their contact info so that HCA can reach them in the coming months about important changes or updates to their coverage.
Encourage people to check their mail, open all letters from the state and respond to requests for information in a timely manner.
Be available, or know who to refer people to if they need help with any part of this process (see HCA’s Cross Agency Desk Aid for quick reference) .
Be a part of the Apple Health Ambassador program to help ensure Apple Health recipients have the information and resources they need (HCA recently hosted a webinar that provides more information).

As one panelist pointed out, “with knowledge comes power”; the more information we can share, the more empowered our communities will be to navigate changes to Medicaid coverage. We are stronger together!
